PDO Lifting Threads

Lift, and define with PDO lifting threads. Are you beginning to see the signs of aging? Do you feel like your cheeks have fallen? Have Jowls suddenly appeared? Then a thread lift might be for you!

A thread lift is a technique that uses thin threads of polydioxanone (PDO) inserted under the skin to reposition tissue and stimulate collagen production to increase volume gently. PDO threads are FDA approved, with few or no side effects.

PDO threads are positioned in the forehead to lift the brow and eye area for a brow lift. The threads dissolve over time and leave in their place smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin

Lifting threads are inserted below the skin to lift the deeper tissues and can be used for:

  • Brow lift
  • Cheek lift
  • Neck lift
  • Lower face/jowl/jawline lift
  • Nose lift

What are lifting threads?

Lifting threads are composed of polydioxanone (PDO). PDO surgical sutures (dissolvable sutures) have been used safely for 40+ years. When placed in the subcutaneous tissue, lifting threads can lift and tighten the face and neck and reduce wrinkles and folds. You can also use them to lift the brows. The lifting threads stimulate collagen production in the treated areas. The threads will eventually dissolve, and only the collagen will be left behind. This new collagen continues to lift and tighten the treated areas.

Who is a candidate for lifting threads?

Those that have good skin quality and mild to moderate skin laxity would like to lift and tighten the face and neck, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and folds, or lift the brows.

What can be expected during a lifting thread treatment?

Before your treatment, you will be mapped, and we will select specific threads for your needs. During the treatment, you will be given a local anesthetic. Once you are adequately numbed, the PDO threads will then be precisely inserted under the skin. Barbs on the threads lift and tighten the skin of the face and neck. The procedure will take 1 hour per area. We will then review Post-procedure aftercare with you. The treated area’s redness, swelling, rippling, and denting are expected and typical for the first 2-4 weeks.

What is the discomfort or pain associated with lifting thread treatments?

The area being treated will first be numbed with numbing injections using a cannula. During this time, you may feel a slight pinch, tugging, or pressure. Multiple threads will be inserted. Barbs on the threads lift and tighten the skin of the face and neck. The treatment will take approximately 1 hour per area.

What is the downtime after getting lifting threads?

At Skin Deep, we define downtime as being unable to work or go out in public. Downtime is unique to every patient. Typically lifting thread treatment has 24 hours of downtime. Redness, swelling, tenderness/soreness, and bruising can occur. Redness will typically resolve in 24-72 hours. Swelling, tenderness/soreness, and bruising resolve in 1-2 weeks. Arnica gel or capsules can be used to treat swelling and bruising. It is normal to experience some difficulty chewing and speaking for 24-72 hours after treatment.

What is the aftercare following the lifting thread procedure?

Remain upright for 4 hours after treatment. Refrain from using makeup or other facial products or touching your face for 4-6 hours after treatment. Also, refrain from showering and from washing your face and hair for 24 hours. For two weeks, treat the treated area very gently. Avoid aggressive washing of the hair and face. Avoid aggressive hair brushing. You can wash your face and hair gently. If the midface was treated, avoid aggressive and prolonged chewing, wide yawns, and big smiles for 2-4 weeks after treatment. Sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated for two weeks after treatment. Avoid alcohol consumption, smoking, exercise, UV light, and heat (saunas, steam, tanning beds, hot showers, etc.) for two weeks after treatment. It would be best to avoid facial treatments such as facials and facial massages for a minimum of 4 weeks after treatment. You should not have laser, radiofrequency, and IPL for 10-12 weeks after treatment. Avoid sun exposure as long as bruising is present. You can wear compression garments until swelling resolves.
