About Neuromodulators
Neuromodulators are chemicals that can be put and used to relax muscles and eliminate lines and wrinkles. There are many brands of neuromodulators, but BOTOX is one of the best known.
Like Botox, Dysport can help smooth out the look of wrinkles that have formed over time. All brands contain a small amount of the active ingredient, temporarily halting the communication muscles and nerves in the areas treated.
Is Botox a Neuromodulator?
Botulinum toxin A.K.A. Botox is a drug that calms the nerves and muscles in the face that controls facial expressions and sweating. This keeps wrinkles from forming from tight muscles and helps smooth out wrinkles.
The forehead, the frown lines between our brows, and the crowfeet around the eyes are the Popular areas to be treated. Botox can also lift the brows, reduce a gummy smile, slim the lower face by injecting the masseters, define the jawline, and treat excessive sweating and T.M.J.
But is there a difference between Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau?
Well, Botulinum toxin A is what makes up all neuromodulators. Each type of neuromodulator has a different protein coating (except for Xeomin, which does not have a protein coating).
This protein coating leads to very slight differences in the characteristics of the neuromodulators. We can compare the differences between neuromodulators to the differences between brands of tissues or types of soda. They all do the same thing, but you might like one or another better.
What To Expect From The Treatment?
First of all, you can expect to see a clear improvement in how your wrinkles look. This is because the injection has relaxed the muscles in your face, making your skin smoother and less creased. However, expect to see it only in a short time. The total effect of the injection may not be seen for a few days. But trust me, it’s worth the wait!
You may also experience some minor side effects after your treatment. These can include redness, swelling, and bruises at the injection site. But don’t worry; these are temporary and should subside within a few days.
It’s important to note that the effects of the injection are not permanent. You must have repeat treatments every few months to maintain the results. But don’t worry; this is a quick and easy process you can schedule during your lunch break!
Lastly, you may wonder if the injection will affect your ability to make facial expressions. The answer is no! Even though the shot relaxes your facial muscles, it doesn’t change your ability to talk. You’ll still be able to laugh, smile, and frown just like you always have.
In conclusion, if you’re considering a neuromodulator treatment, go for it! You can expect to see great results and a noticeable improvement in the appearance of your wrinkles. And don’t worry about any minor side effects; they’re temporary and completely normal.
Treatment typically takes 15-30 minutes, so sit back, relax, and enjoy your smoother, more youthful-looking skin!
Other Discomfort Issues
Discomfort and pain during treatment are minimal. Some describe the injections as feeling like a small pinch. A slight headache and mild tingling and itching can occur. Symptoms like the flu can also happen, but they are less common. Most of the time, these symptoms go away very quickly. Pain can be treated with Tylenol as needed.
So, Who Is The Ideal Candidate?
Anyone who wants to keep from getting wrinkles or get rid of the ones they already have. Those people who want to look younger and care for their skin are also the ideal choice. Besides, neurotoxins and neuromodulators can also lift the brows, reduce a gummy smile, slim the lower face, define the jawline, and treat excessive sweating or T.M.J.
Is There a Downtime?
At Skin Deep Cosmetics & Aesthetics, we define downtime as being unable to work or go out in public. Every person who gets a neuromodulator treatment will have a different amount of rest. Typically neuromodulator treatment has no downtime. Again, redness, swelling, and bruising can occur. Redness and swelling will typically resolve within an hour. Most bruises are minor and go away in one to two weeks. You can take arnica by mouth to help bruises heal faster.
Aftercare Instruction Tips
Here are some basic and usual processes to take care of your treatment afterward. Typically, your provider, like us here at Skin Deep Cosmetics & Aesthetics, suggests you follow this to help you get the best results for your therapy. These tips are:
- After a Botox treatment, you should stand up for 4 hours.
- Don’t touch your face or put on makeup or other facial products for 4–6 hours after treatment.
- After treatment, don’t wear a hat or rub or massage the area for 24 hours.
- Don’t drink too much for 24 hours after treatment, smoke, work out, or expose yourself to U.V. light or heat (saunas, steam, tanning beds, hot showers, etc.)
When Will I See The Results?
As we said, Neuromodulators don’t take instant effects. For Botox, it will take 3–10 days to show their first effects. At 14 days, results are at their best. It’s not unusual for the forehead and brows to feel slightly heavy for two to three weeks after treatment. Results will keep getting better for at least four weeks.
How Long Do The Treatment Last?
On average, the effects of Botox should last between 3 and 4 months. We like to educate and make it clear that DOSE = DURATION. If you want a more natural look, which means a lower dose, you might not get the entire 3–4 month period.
